videos imported to imovie are solid green

Hi,

I took some videos with my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone and uploaded them to my Mac. I want to use iMovie to splice the 5 short clips together into one video. For some reason when I import the videos using iMovie, the videos don't appear for editing as I've seen in tutorial videos on YouTube. All I see is green where I should be seeing video stills. I can click play and hear the audio but am unable to see video. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks

How did you check for updates? Open the App Store and sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase iLife. Then look under purchased tab and see if iMovie 10.1.1 is there to download. Alternatively search for iMovie in the main window and it should allow you to update for free.

Looks like you are trying to use iMovie 11 (version 9.0.x) with El Capitan. Unfortunately iMovie 11 is not compatible with El Capitan. Green or black photos among other problems are due to the incompatibility. iMovie 10.1.1 is the only fully compatible version. Suggest you upgrade to 10.1.1. If you have version 9.0.9 it is a free upgrade.
