Q: No, my problem is NOT solved: still can't sync some photos to iPad Pro from iMac

I posted this question yesterday, and after one response (which was not helpful, though I do appreciate Rudegar's having tried to help me), mysteriously my question was marked as "Solved" in the list of questions, so it's unlikely that more people will look at that thread. I can't figure out how to remove that "Solved" label, so I'm posting my question again.

I'm trying to sync selected photos from my iMac (running Mavericks 10.9.5) to my new iPad Pro (12.9 inch model, updated to iOS 9.3.1). I connect the iPad to the iMac, fire up iTunes (version 12.3.3.17, it says), select the iPad in iTumes and then the "Photos" tab over on the left. On the right I choose "Selected Folders," and in the "Folders" window below that I check the boxes for the folders that I want and click on "Apply" if it's there or "Sync" if that's the only option showing.

Every time, a few photos refuse to move over to the iPad. It's always the same ones, but I can't find any common characteristic (e. g., wrong extension or huge file size) that would explain why those photos won't go while everything else will. Typically in a folder with 20 photos, between 15 and 20 will move over to the iPad. But why won't the rest? This is really bugging me. I've tried unplugging and replugging the iPad, turning it off and on, quitting and restarting iTunes, and even putting the ones that won't sync into a special folder all of their own. No luck.

Can anybody help me out?

iPad Pro, iOS 9.3.1

    Peter,

Have you noticed any theme with regard to the age of the photos that will not sync to the iPad?

I have no idea why this would be, but it seems like the photos that have copied over are newer ones (2012-2015); whereas, anything that is older does not copy.

If no one posts a solution, I will try to contact Apple Support in the next few days.

    Matt

This is not a solution of course but have you tried airdropping the pictures? Try Airdrop from the Mac to the iPad with some of them and see if they transfer, if so it would let you know they are not corrupted and could be a temporary workaround.

Matthew, in my case the age of the photo doesn't seem to be a factor; almost all of the ones that won't sync were taken on the same days as others that will sync, and all were taken within the last three years. I'll try elcpu's suggestion of Airdrop and see whether that helps—but first I'll have to educate myself about how to use Airdrop.

Thanks, elcpu. Unfortunately, the support page to which you referred me says that to use a Mac with Airdrop it needs to have Yosemite or later, and I'm not keen to ditch Mavericks and switch to El Capitan just to see whether it'll resolve this issue. In any case, that page seems to say that Airdrop can be used to send something from an iOS device to another iOS device or to a Mac; can it also be used to send something from a Mac to an iOS device?

Certainly in my case, it appears to be all older photos in iPhoto that will not sync to the new iPad Pro 9.7. They sync just fine to my iPad Air & iPhone 6s, all running the same iOS 9.3.1 So I don't think corruption is the issue?

Ralph - Thank you for the suggestion. I did try this but still no luck I'm afraid. It's all older photos in my case that aren't syncing to the new iPad Pro 9.7 inch from iPhoto in Yosemite OSX. They sync just fine to my iPad Air & iPhone 6s, all running iOS 9.3.1 u

I heard this morning of another friend having problems syncing photos via iTunes to their new iPad Pro 9.7 inch.  Again, it is the same photos which will not sync at every attempt.  She is attempting to sync around 30 albums and 2800 photos.  Around 500 photos will not sync from iPhoto on her Mac running Yosemite.  This is beginning to look at though it could be a fault/bug somewhere within the new iPad Pro 9.7 inch? Is there any way of alerting Apple Support to this thread?

Except that I'm having the problem on a 12.9 inch iPad Pro (128 GB model).

Ah sorry Peter, I'd lost track!  My brain has become befuddled with trying to get this to work.  So maybe there is a bug somewhere in all the iPad Pros? There must be a common denominator in all this somewhere, and it certainly doesn't seem to be the photos themselves. It all works just fine on my iPhone 6s and older iPad Air.

Not unless you and I (and a lot of other people) are taking the exact same photos.

I have a horrible feeling that if I ring Apple Support, they will tell me to upgrade from Yosemite to El Capitan, which I don't want to do just yet as that would mean my printer/scanner won't work any longer.  I suppose I could try moving over from iPhoto to the new Photos app but again it managed to lose all my albums last time I tried that!  Took me 2 days to get iPhoto working again. And you aren't using iPhoto anyway Peter, so that is not the problem.  I'm stumped.

I know what you mean. I tend not to upgrade operating systems—my six-year-old Macbook Pro still has Snow Leopard on it.

    But I digress.

Has anybody else had any brainstorms about what the issue might be?

Peter - is this another iOS 9.3 problem I wonder?  This guy seems to have the same problem, but is using a Windows computer.  Says problem only started with 9.3.  Look at iTashenG's post:

Ipad cannot sync photo after ios 9.3

That's interesting, Caroline. Like one of the posters in that thread, I see the sync start normally, and I typically get a message saying something such as "Syncing photo 1 of 47," but instead of moving on ("Syncing photo 2 of 47," etc.), it hangs there and then goes back to the grey Apple logo, as though the sync were finished—but the photos aren't on my iPad.

    Frustrating.
