If you still have your old PC in working condition, with its iTunes library intact, don't use your iPod to transfer the library to your new Mac.  You transfer your user data (not just your iTunes data) directly from the old PC to the new Mac.

There is an automated system called Migration Assistant, if you system meets the requirements.  Be sure to have a data backup.

    Windows Migration Assistant v1.0.5.7

Alternately, for the iTunes part, this document describes how to do it manually, using an external drive.

Manage and back up your iTunes media library - Apple Support

To summarize, the first step is to make sure all of your iTunes data is stored in the iTunes folder ("consolidate" it), which is in your user account Music folder.  The second step is to copy that iTunes folder to an external drive, to create a backup.  The third step is to restore that backed up iTunes folder onto your new Mac.  Run iTunes to use your iTunes data from the old PC; it looks like iTunes running on your old PC, complete with all songs (and other media types) and supporting data, such as playlists, ratings, play count, etc.

Your iPod continues to sync to it, because to the iPod, it's the same iTunes library (on a different computer).  If you do it using your iPod as the data source, you are adding your old data to a new iTunes library on the Mac.  It is NOT complete.  The iPod sees it as a different iTunes library.  iPods are not designed to be your iTunes data backup.

However, IF the iPod is now the only place where your songs are stored (and you don't have any other backup), please post back.

    Hi

Thanks very much for your previous advice on how to copy my iPod library over to my new Apple mac computer - i have finally got round to doing this and everything seemed to go well..... however, i am left with a few issues and hopefully you might be able to help me.....

    1.  all my music is now on my iTunes on my Apple Mac but the playlists that i created on my old windows iTunes library have not come over

2,  when i sync my iPod to my apple Mac it shows the playlists and the music within them but it does not show up in bold print and is not accessable

    3. if i create a new playlist in iTunes or download a cd to iTunes it will not sync it to the iPod.

I did follow all of your instructions, and double checked, that i had so not sure as to what has gone wrong.

When i look at the properties of my iPod in iTunes once i have synced it it does say ' windows ' - not sure if this means anything.

    What do you think  ???

    Regards
