My MBP15" Mid02010 2.66GHz 500GB-HD experiences "Sudden Monitor Blackouts" during "Graphic Intensive Sessions."

1. The problem started possibly around August of 2013 (the last year of my supposed Applecare coverage ending Oct. 19th, 2013) when my laptop displayed sort of "corrupted-like images" like the photo attached above. This issue was recurring a lot.

2. My MBP had other problems as well especially when connected to an external HD that results in kernel panics. Therefore, I went to a local Apple Service provider and informed them of these two issues. Diagnostic testing the unit resulted in "supposedly" no issues at all. They recommended to have my unit retained for observation for three days. Sadly, the outcome was similar (no issues) and my apple coverage ended.

3. I do not recall but beginning around early 2014 my unit started to have "sudden monitor blackout" issues which occurs randomly. (Imagine the frustration of not being able to update or save files).

Check to see if there are any kernel panic panic reports by using these directions:

If found, post it. This may verify the following:

In all probability your discrete GPU is having issues, which is common to 6,2 model identifier MBPs. There was a logic board replacement program on these models but that has expired. To solve this problem, you can have the logic board replaced at your expense.

As a temporary measure you can download and install this application:

https://gfx.io/

This will allow you to disengage the discrete GPU and run the MBP using only the integrated one. This will result in a degradation of graphic performance.

Ciao.

Hi Ogelthorpe,

Kindly check on my latest post on this matter as this post does not contain thorough information on what is occurring on my MBP. But I appreciate your immediate response. Sadly, I'm using 10.6.8 so the link to the software you recommended will not work.

Also, my unit is not included in the logic board replacement program as it involves only MBPs manufactured during 2011-2013. Mine is Mid-2010: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

Thank you for your concern.
