Q: Text Edit ALWAYS opens in the wrong monitor

What is wrong with this stupid program?

It doesn't matter how often I right-click it in the dock and select ANY combination of monitor Text Edit opens in the 'other-one'!

I have one main monitor (DVI) everything opens in this. I have other monitor (hdmi) I use only to watch videos, football eye TV etc. Most of the time this monitor is off! Text Edit will ONLY open in this 2nd monitor even if it is off!

Have tried deleting it and reinstalling. Nothing works. It annoys me I have to load pages to make short notes for copy and paste while working.

Bah! poor programming. Can anyone fix this stupid program - before I delete OSX for good

I've been having this problem as well. I run two ACD's and one TV via HDMI. Textedit always opens on the HDMI monitor that I'm locked out of due to running Premiere as a client monitor. I just looked around and saw if you right-click the app in the dock, you can assign what screen to have that app attached to. I just selected desktop 1 (it was set to none) and that temporarily solved my problem. Time will tell if it stays that way.

    Hi

I tried this - it reverts back to the hdmi connection, 2nd monitor.

I had an open case once where I was unable to reinstall snow leopard. We tried everything and eventually apple kindly sent me a new install disk. Then one afternoon it occurred to me to switch-on the other monitor ...  And there it was!!

The install was trying to load on the hdmi monitor, leaving my main monitor blank! (appearing to hang)

Does anyone know if the mac pro / apple software has a hierarchy of ports to use?

Is it perhaps linked to my old Radeon card or my nvidia card? (have had the same problem with both)

Perhaps the installation script and the Text script are not able to identify the preferred monitor in system preferences - and follow their own route? I can understand Mac OS install loading before sys prefs - but not text edit.

Text edit should be such a useful tool - I use notepad all the time on my work windows machine

Otherwise does anyone know a good notepad for mac software?

(bit like mice - microsoft mice are much better than apple mice)

So I think I know why Text edit behaves this way

The 2nd monitor sits above the 1st and so displays are organised this way in sys prefs.

I notice that text edit tries to get to the top of the screen and so I changed displays in sys prefs to be left and right instead of one ever the other. Now text edit opens in the correct 1st monitor

Still feels like bad programming somewhere if the option to organise displays one over the other is there but text edit cannot cope with this
