Q: Mac does not see HP 4000N printer

iMac running OSX 10.10.5 Yosemite.  I have a HP LaserJet 4000 N printer connected to a wireless network.  Prints fine from my Windows laptop so network is up and running, but my Mac does not see the printer and cannot add it to the printer list.  I need to find a solution, and HP apparently does not have an updated driver past OSX 10.6.  Help!

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

My HP printer was working, but now OSX Yosemite does not show the printer anymore and it is not recognized.  This is just no fun at all!  Does turning back to another time on the computer help this?  Thanks.

Solution / Fix: I have a HP Laserjet 4050tn printer that gave me similar problems. I tried to add the printer to my Macbook Air by using the IP address after installing Yosemite 10.10.5. I tried reinstalling the print drivers, repairing permissions, resetting the printers etc., etc.,. What finally worked was to select the HP Jet Direct - Socket protocol window to add the printer. I entered the IP address in that window and everything finally worked. The IP needed to be directed to the Jetdirect socket and not just to the IP address of the printer alone.

    Hope this helps.
