Gmail in MAIL - Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed. Verify that this username and password are correct.

Hi,

I am using "Mail" on my mac and recently added my new GMAIL account in Mail. So I am using two emails. Suddenly, out of nowhere, my Gmail Account does not work anymore out of mail and this is what shows up when I go to the connection Doctor: "Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed. Verify that this username and password are correct."

What should I do? I already eased the settings on googlemail for less secure apps. Anyone came across this before? I have attached an image of the problem. Thanks so much for your help. This has been driving me nuts for days.
