Q: Itunes 12.3.3.17 will not recognize iPhone on Windows 10

This isn't a question.  It's a statement.  The latest release of iTunes is broken for Windows 10.  It will not fire up the Apple USB driver.  The computer will see the device on USB and you can see the picture folder, but iTunes will not recognize the phone.  I've tried removing and reinstalling iTunes and it still doesn't work.

    Hello wgpowell3,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If iTunes isn't recognizing your iPhone when it's plugged in, then there are some additional troubleshooting steps for you to go through aside from reinstalling iTunes:

If iTunes doesn‘t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

    Take care.

I already followed ALL the steps, including calling support.  The USB cable works.  The PC sees the iPhone attached.  From the PC I can access the phone's picture folder.  The phone is connected on Device Manager under >portable devices>Apple iPhone

So, the USB cable works, the PC sees the device, but iTunes doesn't.  When you run diagnostics, it doesn't see the device.  The Apple Mobile USB driver does NOT initialize.

    IT IS NOT SOLVED

    Try the following:

    1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
    2. Plug in your device
    3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
    4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
    5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
    6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
                      C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Or lastly try rolling back to the last build of iTunes that worked for you. See iTunes installers for download links. If you're rolling back from 12.3.3.17 to 12.3.2.35 then you'll also need to roll back the library database in the way described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Thank you for a better thought out approach to the issue based on the stated problem.  I will try your suggestions.  My guess is that the tear down and reinstall is going to be necessary.  I will post back with the final result of what solved the issue.

The detailed steps to update the driver software by going to the \program files\common files\Apple\Mobile Device Support folder was sufficient to fix the problem.  Thanks for your post, turingtest2.

    HI Boninha!

I've had the same problem and I solved it in a pretty easy way.

I Uninstalled all the Apple soft from my PC and than I installed the last iTunes again and that fixed the problem.

    Windows 10, iPhone 6s

    good luck

I was having the same issue of my phone not being recognized in Itunes after the latest update. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling older version that had previously worked, all with no luck.

I was very encouraged after reading turingtest2's suggestion and seeing it worked for others but when I looked in my device manager the Apple Mobile Device USB driver wasn't listed anywhere. This even with the newest reinstall. It did show up when I ran services.msc as suggested in other troubleshooting threads. I then googled "installing apple mobile device USB driver" which lead me to the following thread

Apple Mobile Device Driver Missing Under Device Manager

This response did the trick for me

Thekittymix you didn't try everything.....finally found a solution

Connect your idevice to computer the go to device manager, expand other devices, you device should be listed there, right-click it the select update driver, click on search my computer for drivers, then browse to C/Program files/Common files/Apple/Mobile Device support/drivers click on Ok.....

    Enjoy......"

After a couple of hours of searching and over 4 uninstalls, reinstalls, reboots, etc...less than two minutes following Messi001's instructions and I was good to go. Hope this works for you and anyone else still struggling with this issue.
