When will Apple Music be compatible with Denon Heos?

Currently I am a Spotify subscriber, listening through my Denon Heos system. My subscription is up for renewal, and I would like to use Apple Music and iTunes again, however Apple Music isn't compatible with the Denon system.

I emailed Denon, and they are interested in making it work, however they have to wait for the API requirements to be made available. How likely/soon will there be any form of compatibility between the two?

This is the email I received from Denon:

"We consider Apple Music to be a valuable new player in the music streaming business and as a result, we are certainly interested in the service.

Apple initially partnered with Sonos to bring the Apple Music service to fruition with 3rd party hardware, but to date, they still have not released any kind of API for any other 3rd parties to assess or work with.

Until that time we will not know the technical requirements of the API and while we are interested in the service it may transpire that our products might not meet the requirements, we simply do not know at this stage.

Please feel free to check with us from time to time. Once an API is released for other 3rd parties and we have assessed it we will be able to give a more accurate answer, I hope you understand."

I understand the answer will probably be "we don't know", but this is also a post supporting this idea for the future (if I can do that)!

For what it's worth, I've cobbled together a decent solution for Apple Music, though it is nowhere near as convenient, and requires additional purchase.

You'll need to pick up an airport express $49-$99 depending on used/new, etc. The airport express has a 3.5mm output that allows you to connect to any device with an aux/line in using AirPlay.

I have the Airport Express connected to the HEOS link using a 3.5 mm to RCA audio cord. I tried connecting 3.53.5 from the express to the aux in on the heos speaker, but the results were subpar with lots of audio drops.

To listen:

- Open HEOS app and launch the input that you have the express connected to.

- Open Apple Music and start playing whatever you want to listen to.

- Tap the Airplay icon and connect to the Airport Express

Waalaah - Apple Music to whatever HEOS speakers you want to use.

I've heards the new speakers have a Bluetooth receiver, so that may be an option, but I'm curious how that would work if you left the room that the speaker was located in. AirPlay uses wifi, so I can be connected anywhere.

Hope that helps!
