My macbook(2009)'s screen go extremely dim when i open it but sometimes it goes normal for a few second and turn back to dim screen,someone please help

I Try some ways for example turn on the macbook and hold shift key but it doesn't work anyway, one time when the screen turn normal for a few second ,i saw it is on "safe boot".i don't know what it mean and don't know what to do,please help.

When you start holding down the shift key, that is safe mode. Are you getting the dim screen in a normal boot up? What is your operating system? Try both aSMC and Pram reset.https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295 https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2040 You could also try toggling the F 2 key for brightness.

WIth the macbook running does the screen flicker on and off as you move the screen?
