I am a quadriplegic; how to control household functions with OS X

I am a quadriplegic and unable to use remote controls, turn on lights, adjust heat & AC settings, etc.

Is there any way to accomplish this with OS X 10.11.3 on a MacBook Pro?

In addition to controlling these functions, is there any way to control the latest generation Apple TV with OS X?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Late 2008… 2.4 GHz… 8 GB… 1 TB

To my knowledge, there is no way to use OS X to turn on your lights or adjust the heat/air conditioner settings in your home/apartment.

beyond my specific knowledge, but an interesting and worthwhile idea.

Here's what i see:

1. voice recognition available

2. lots of processing power

3. emerging standards for home automation

The real question is whether there are apps for OSX that convert a UI to those standards.

A friend runs a home entertainment (TV, video, audio) store -they focus on large, complex systems. I know that their previous head engineer created a universal controller for iOS (iPhones) that controlled LOS of stuff. If i were you i would head down that path.

I hesitate to promise much, but you could call that store and see if they will provide any pointers - Professional Audio Consultants in Millburn, NJ

All the best,

I would also recommend that you look at IFTTT (If This Then That) -> https://ifttt.com/channels?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=march &utm_campaign=topbanner

Also Z-wave is another helpful technology -> http://www.z-wave.com/

I have a friend with ALS and we were discussing home automation as he progresses toward very limited mobility. Among other things, he currently has the doors on his house wirelessly controlled from his wheelchair.
