Photos flash one time on facebook app

this isn't an iPhone problem. happens to my wife on her Samsung Galaxy as well...

I feel like it is a software issue since it doesn't happen everywhere or all the time and when the one time flash or blink happens it is only in the photo not the entire screen.!!!!Happens also to some YouTube preview images of videos of poor resolution!Hope 11.3 iOS update to resolve the bugs!!!!!

I have no evidence to confirm it, but I think it’s a way for FB to track the scrolling activity of the user. This isn’t an Apple issue. It’s clearly expected behavior of the Facebook app. When you scroll through the pics they typically wouldn’t know if you’ve seen a picture because you didn’t click on it. Whenever you click on something they track it so they can understand what is popular and predict content that you might like. So, they developed a way that on scrolling an event triggers and loads the image again to count it as a page view so they know you’ve seen it. That’s my guess, but I have no evidence to prove it.

How can you be so certain that there isn’t an add on to the app that is capturing anything? Are you equipped with a MITM device and confirm that nothing it being sent out while scrolling? Facebook has had a long history of deceptive practices with app updates including bypassing the App Store including google plays download policies to put on software that wasn’t up to standards.

And to everyone else. Apple isn’t going to give you support for a 3rd party app. And if this is a deceptive practice that Facebook is doing. I’m certain no one is going to get a strait answer unless someone on here is good enough to reverse engineer the app itself and have something inline to the connection to see if anything is being harvested.

Only reason i decided to google this problem was because the flashing is not only going off once. But multiple times for each pic. And it’s getting really annoying. And with the recent breach at Facebook. The flashing to possibly act as a flash to get the facial recognition is a good theory. I wouldn’t doubt that it can be the possible cause as a way of ad tracking.

A few friends have reported this too. There's a guess that Facebook might be capturing your facial reaction to photos using the front facing camera. The White flash being intentional to increase brightness. Try going into Settings > Privacy > Camera and disabling Camera access for Facebook.

I Have a iPhone 6 as well and it is definitely happening to me as well almost like it is malware.

my current iOS version 9.3.1

i think it is one of the add on things with facebook. Can anyone confirm if there are add ins for the Facebook app on iOS that would auto capture images, for things like mash ups or other more nefarious activities?

I see all these posts about the same prob I'm having but not one response from Apple on what is causing the problem or how to stop it. Since they are obviously not concerned and no one at Verizon has seen this like it's a complete mystery or something, has anyone found a link to a solution?

I got the exact same experience! It's the same flashing as if you take a screen shot, but only on the pictures. It only flashes once at each picture as you scrolling down in the Facebook app. I cannot stop thinking that something grabs the pictures I'm looking at... iPhone 6s updated as I'm writing this post. Any others got this behavior in the Facebook app?

After posting my reply earlier. I've found out that it's not just with facebook. I've found that some websites I visit have this go on too. I'm wondering if it has something to do with how the content is displayed in the page. Like the way it's being rendered.

This is happening to me too. Often. No explanation or fix.
