Q: Is MacReviver legitimate and safe?

I downloaded a macreviver app and have not installed it.  My mac is running slow and I want to somehow speed it up and increase its efficiency.  Is this software legit, safe, or malware?

What is best program to speed up MAC?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

    Hello JaumerJT,

Sorry for the trouble with EtreCheck. Unfortunately, your machine is in kind of an "in-between" range. It isn't slow enough for me to proclaim hard drive failure, but that could still be the cause.

You can eliminate some potential causes by running EtreCheck from a new user account. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups and create a new administrator account. Log out of your current account and log into the new account. Run EtreCheck there. Is the performance dramatically better? If so, then the problem could be something in your User Launch Agents or User Login Items. If the performance isn't any better, then cause could be incompatible system modifications like Webroot or possibly a failing hard drive.

The hard drives in those older machines tend to only last 2-3 years. Combine that with your 4 GB RAM and VMWare, and I can see how it would be slow.

You definitely need a backup drive. Maybe while shopping for that you should get a memory upgrade and an SSD.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

I use CCLEANER for both Windows and Mac.

For all the cleaners out there, be careful if they will delete all your cookies. With CCleaner you can white-list sites so your password/login cookies will not be deleted. Of course Apple Key-chain can remember most passwords, but not all.

All 'cleaners' (including CCleaner) are bad for your Mac, never use any of them.
