How do I remove the hyperlink in an email address?

I want the address to just show as text, not a hyperlink. Everything I've been able to find references the old Pages, how do I do it in Pages 5.6.1?

TIA,

" It's like it can't recognize what I typed as real words."

Hi Deb,

More likely, it can't find words that aren't in the document. Searches such as the one in Help can find only strings of text that actually occur in the document being searched. A couple of searching tips migh lead to more success:

  1. Always use the base word, without suffixes: hyperlink instead of hyperlinks, save instead of saved. Searches on the base word will usually includes results with extra letters.
  2. Use partial words if the full word doesn't bring results.
  3. Try alternate words. For the 'remove hyperlinks' search, I got an immediate relevant hit searching "delete hyperlink" (without the quotes).

Not the "Delete" reference I was expecting, but Editing Hyperlink Text, which contained information on how to delete a link.

Control-click/Two finger tap on the selected email address, and on the contextual menu pop-up, select Edit Link. The Link Editor will display, and you can click Remove. You can also select the email address, press command+K, and then click Remove.

If you want all new hyperlinks to appear as plain text as you type them, you can first, select Edit menu : Substitutions : (uncheck) Smart Links.

Do not overlook Pages Help menu : Pages Help. Here is what it has to offer about adding and removing hyperlinks:

When I use the Help facility, and I find this common to all application Help in Yosemite and El Capitan — the search response is two-stage. For instance, with Pages v5.6.1 Help, and in the case of my entering Link as a search item, menu items will be returned immediately if there is a match, but Help Topics can take a few seconds longer to appear.

If you had already selected the email hyperlink text before the search, then in my screen capture example, moving your mouse pointer over Remove Link will highlight its location in the Format menu, and animate a pointer next to it. When you click on the Remove Link in the Help menu's Menu Items, your email link would be restored to plain text.

The earlier screen capture that I posted could be opened by knowing (without using search) that Add Links was in the Edit Text part of the Help page, or in the following screen capture by selecting the first Help Topic: “Link websites and email addresses.” In any event, it is not always intuitive.
