Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

    Denisamir,

Many of us have tried multiple phones including in my case an iPhone SE, an iPhone 6S and an iPhone 5.

The quality on the 6S and 5 are more than acceptable.

The quality on the SE is so bad you can't understand the other caller.

This has been noted several times in the thread.  Trying to bash apple over a codec that is used by all iPhone devices is not the answer as if that was the case we would have issues with all iPhones and we don't.

This issue is exclusive to the iPhone SE.

I will make further tests to compare the voice quality, but it will take time (1-2 day maybe). I hear voice very distorted as soon, as the phone partner talks normal loudness. It gets worse as he raises volume. If the partner whispers its nearly normal/clear to understand.

    Hi,

I have the same issue using my Iphone SE with the bluetooth speakerphone of my car that is an Opel Corsa 2015.

Previously I had an Iphone 4 that worked fine and clear with the same car bluetooth.

    Thanks.

    skierrob2,

are the quality OF VOICE CALLS on the 6S and 5 are more than acceptable?

Did you test it by yourself?

Again, I know exactly that BLUETOOTH VOICE CALLS on practically any new headphones works in 8bit MONO and has many noises!!

FastStream audio codec by CREATIVE is only way to make crystal clear sound for back channel. But FastStream codec is a property of CREATIVE LABS and iPhone SE doesn't have it for now and iPhone SE wouldn't have in future!

And also your headphones or CAR HEADPHONES doesn't have FastStream codec.

The 8bit mono voice quality may have different noises and time to time it can be less or more.

i tested all three phones personally myself and the quality is more than acceptable on voice phone calls on the 6S and 5 -- just not acceptable on the SE.

This isn't an issue for debate.  Something is wrong with the SE.

    Dear denisamir,

Please don't mess up this thread. What you are talking about has nothing to do with this issue and you are misleading other people. It is as simple as it is: the iPhone SE has bluetooth voice call quality problems.

I had all iPhones from the iPhone lineup so far, and experienced this problem few years back with one of them. Apple rolled out a small software update with new audio profiles for bluetooth speakerphones that solved the problem. Hope the solution will be similar this time too.

    skierrob2,

bad to hear it.... It will be difficult for apple to replace or repair all iPhones SE if it is not a software problem....

But the voice quality is a subject to debut and it will be very difficult for apple user to prove the problem to the shop or apple shop to return money....

But if you will wait to fix, your days to return will over.....

Yes, i think so. I use iphones for years and had no problem at all in understanding the caller with my differently BT headsets. Now its nearly not possibly to understand the caller. I switch my headset off at work, and in my car, i tell the caller to call me back later. That ist really embarrassing.

It is not an irrelevant software function, that maybe fixed in the future, which is acceptable. It is for me, any many others presumably, the most essential function to understand the caller :-)

Last bad quality of apple IOS software move to apple hardware...

I wanted to buy iPhone SE as a first small phone after big line to replace my iPhone 4s and now I don't know what to do........

Is it a problem of all iphones from all countries?

    I am Russian.

You are correct, if it turns out it is a hardware problem your screwed and will have to spend alot of time and effort to get it replaced.  Your best bet is to return the phone and use your old one or find another.  I returned mine yesterday and the lady at Verizon said "oh it should work just like your 5s did, I have not heard of this problem"     BS.  Give me my $ back and reactivate my 5s.   Now with my 5s back, life is back to normal and everything a-ok

IF you waiting and hoping its a software fix, I can guarantee you that the software fix will not be pushed out until after your return period has expired. Just an FYI

I personally think it is a hardware issue  If you read the news articles everywhere they say that the SE if not selling well but if you try to get one through Verizon and elsewhere its over a months wait in order to purchase one.  I think they are resourcing the part from another Vendor to fix the issue and there is a shortage of phones available until they can build the new phones with the right part.

It is not sure, but I think this was it for iPhone 5 (and not released to other iPhones):

    iOS 6.1.4 Software Update

But i am sure, that i experienced the same problem back then, and it was solved with update.

I am returning my phone to T-Mobile today and going to 5C temporarily, until the issue is resolved. I was hoping for an official announcement from Apple before the 14 day return period expired. I'll just buy it again when the issue is fixed.
