Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

We certainly have defined the issue...I went in person to the Apple store yesterday. No surprise, when the nice woman swapped out my current SE for a new one, same issue. Her take on it given she wiped the software, is that it indeed could be hardware.

One more thing, Apple, if you are reading these, many are noting cars and traditional headsets...for the record, this issue also affects bluetooth installed hearing aid connectivity using a phonak icom.

grantfromhickory, if it hardware issue and I will wait to buy long time and they build new iphones with right part I don't have garantee that I will buy new one.

    It can be old one.

I don't have apple store in my city and it is difficult for me to prove to the shop that quality of some Bluetooth sound in some modes are bad.... somebody will not hear the noises and shop or repair center do not make me happy to replace or repair my iPhone.. it is big problem for iPhone users to prove the issue...

You are right , it is hard to prove to Apple or the companies selling these that there is a problem so that should be even more reason to just return it for a refund.  In the US if you don't have an Apple store within like 30 miles from you they will allow you to mail it in free for a refund or repair.  I would just get your money back while you can, you can always repurchase the phone once the issues are fixed.  Also they can't sell a phone at a later date as new when it is really just a repair or refurb so that shouldnt be an issue

grantfromhickory, how I can determine in shop manufacturing date of iPhone SE if it would be hardware problem?

warriors16, what is aid connectivity using a phonak icom?

If you don't have Bluetooth headset to check the issue you can use notebook with Bluetooth or desktop computer with external Bluetooth adapter. Need to connect iPhone to computer as a BLUETOOTH HEADPHONEs (it is simple, see audio settings).

How'd you manage to pair your SE to anything?  My vehicle system asks me to find sync on my phone, and I have no idea where to sync.  Didn't have this problem with my 4s.

That link didn't work for me on IPhone or PC (tried multiple times) The same imei number did work on another site (there are a few). However it only lists release date of the model, not manufacture date. In my case Oct 2011 for my 4S which is when the 4S was released, so the imei number isn't going to tell you when your phone was built.

Hi, I have just purchased iPhone SE 64GB in UK, and have same issue with distorted speech from callers when using Bluetooth in car.

The phone is running IOS 9.3 (13E233) - and is fresh out of the box.

Tried calling different contacts - to eliminate potential reception issues at the recipient's end, and they all said they can hear me ok.

My car is a Hyundai ix35 2010.  Previously I had a trusted iPhone 4 - and this worked fine.

Please Apple confirm whether this is an IOS glitch and software fixable?

    Thanks

    Terry

There is definitley a problem with distorted speech via Bluetooth, no doubt. I just made a call via a very common Plantronics headset and i had to turn it off to understand the caller.

Now, i think it is a question of trust, if Apple is fixing it in near future. I prefer to give it back, but i bought it 15 days ago.

I quote Terry since as reported before, I'm in the same situation (apart the car model of course). And I think that for us new buyers it is very important to know as soon as possible if Apple considers this as an IOS/software (fixable) related issue and not an hardware defect, because in case this would result as an hardware issue we need the required time to eventually return back the phone to the Apple Store leveraging the guarantee.

    Thanks,

    Flavio.

Anche io ho acquistato un iPhoneSE 64 Gb e ho lo stesso problema! Distorsione con audio telefono in trasmissione verso blue tooth mentre sembra ok con musica!

Chi mi ascolta sente bene mentre io sento distorto!

I really need to buy a new iPhone and the SE was the best choice for me... now i have to wait some news from Apple about this bluetooth problem. Hoping for the all SE owners that it's a software problem.

I just ordered a new 5S. I will give the SE back. As soon as the BT problem is solved, i will buy a new SE.
