Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

My experience with the iPhone SE was different than what I see being reported.   I had mostly good calls via Bluetooth connected to my 2015 Ford F150 Sync.  Only a subset of my calls were bad, as described by everyone else.  I even had one call that started bad and improved within about 1 minute to a very good acceptable quality for the remainder of the call.  Also different is that I had at least one (I think several) call(s) that was of very poor quality (as described) but it was just the iPhone, not going through any Bluetooth connection at all.

I returned my iPhone SE, but I've followed and read almost every post on this thread out of curiosity.  The only thing that I see different in my situation vs what I've seen reported here is that this was my first iPhone, so it was setup as "a new iPhone" out of the box rather than migrating data/configuration from a previous iPhone.  Theoretically that should be the same situation as people that have reset their phones (after already having the issue) and setting them up as "a new iPhone", which some people have tried to no avail.

Hope this helps or at least gives hope.  Good luck.

Same Problem with brandnew iPhone SE in two cars (Audi A6, BMW 1series). My "old" iPhone 5s works fine in both cars so does my wife's iPhone 6. Honestly speaking I'm more than happy that it's "only" a Problem with my Smartphone (which I will return) and not a Problem with my Audi's MMI

Smart! Once Apple gets a couple hundred returns maybe they'll get the ball rolling on a fix

Ill take it.   While the article is informative I don't believe it is true in saying 9.3.1 is causing the problem with the SE.  The SE was launched with 9.3 and people have complained that the problem existed on their SE while using 9.3 also.

I bought my iPhone SE 16GB 4 days ago in Italy and I'm facing the same issue!

the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

I've a Toyota Yaris and with my Old iPhone 4 I've never had this kind of issue!!!!

I hope that Apple will solve this problem soon because bluetooth is necessary for me since I travel a lot with my car and use the phone is illegal in Italy as well!!

I was so happy when I bought it but now I'm very disappointed!

    Hope this will solved soon.

is there anyone that has been able to solve it in some way?

Yeah...take it back and reactivate your iPhone 4.

This fix IF its software related probably wont be sent out anytime soon if you base it on past software updates.

    Same here.

Old situation iPhone 5 running 9.3.1 no issues with Skoda Octavia mk 2015 using internal carkit or plantronics headset.

Replaced my iPhone 5 (finally a new 4 inch model, yeah) bad sound quality on both (carkit and headset)

hoping for a fix in 9.3.2?

    Hi from Italy,

just had a talk via phone with an Apple Senior Consultant, who just told me now there's nothing we can do.

    Quote:

"Apple is perfectly aware of the issue, and engineers are working hard to solve is asap, either with an iOS update, or with a device recall."

So I suggest to you all no more tests, we have to wait.

Same here with iPhone SE (iOS 9.3.1) bought in Netherlands with Audi bluetooth carkit. Incoming phone and WhatsApp audio doesn't work, outgoing audio seems fine. Other audio like YouTube video does work good.

I called Apple Care Netherlands: Problem is known and they are working on solutions.

I do advice everybody to make an incident report so the bug will be given a high priority!

Thanks everybody for the helpful notes. I had an iPhone SE on order in Germany when I read all these complaints. My phone would be used intensely on a car kit. It has been 10 days now from the original post and still no reaction from Apple as to what the problem is or a guarantee that there will be a sw fix. How sad.

Therefore I just cancelled my iPhone SE order. If many people are doing this, I would assume that this pushes the priority up, as well. Once, the problem is solved I will reorder the phone and happily wait again weeks for it to come. Thanks to all again.
