Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

I got my SE phone yesterday and immediately discovered that audio is broken up when I use my AYL bluetooth headphones -- which worked beautifully with my old iphone 5. From what I see online, it's not the fault of the headphones. Can anybody tell me if Apple is on to this? How do I keep track of what's happening?

ATTENTION ALL: There is NO fix. I've read these pages with many people on here discussing their experiences and trying everything under sun. We are all in a holding pattern until Apple figures it out. Yesterday a 2nd patch was released to "Developers" with no solution identified. The phone has terrible audio when used as Bluetooth in ANY vehicle. Is it software or hardware? We don't know. It doesn't make sense that the latest 9.3.1 works fine on other Apple products, but this SE iphone it doesn't. I'd tend to think if it were software, all their products would experience the same thing. This is isolated to the iphone SE. We've tried everything from restores, returns, updates, network settings, even removing cases on the phones. None of it works.

If you can....take yours back NOW and cut your losses. Some of us are stuck. Apple wants ME to pay another $150 to get my iphone 6 back. For $300 I get to learn this product is a DUD. No thanks. I'm going to keep mine for now. Maybe something comes out. Maybe something doesn't. I don't use BT enough to really get angry. If it doesn't get fixed, this will be my last ever Iphone. I will move to Samsung or some other product.

Those new to this thread.....don't even waste your time searching for solutions. There are none. 29+ pages of things people have tried with no success.

As previously stated, my IPhone 64GB SE/TMobile USA pairs perfectly, with my 2015 Acura SH-AWD/TLX/Tech; except for ONE thing. I CANNOT respond to visible/Nav. screen text messages; receiving is fine; messaging on the phone itself is great

Call quality through Bluetooth, is the best I've heard from any phone

    Must be a software glitch

    Hi MotleyDiver

If you take the time to read the 29 pages, you'll find that for a few people, me included, the suggested fixes have worked.

If I'm not wrong, at least four people here have reported their SE works with Bluetooth audio.

And of course when you talk about that if it was a software issue all devices with 9.3.1 should have the problem, you're wrong. Every OS (be it iOS, MacOS...) has different internal "pieces" of software which are hardware dependent. The bluetooth software driver can be different in the OS for different chip makers, for example.

We even have a report in this thread of a guy with an iPhone 6 (not an SE) that got Bluetooth broken after upgrading to iOS 9.3.1.

So I don't know how you can assure there is no fix, and how you can assure it's not fixable by a software upgrade.

But anycase, I think that Apple should aknowledge the issue and say publically that they're working on it.

I am having the problem with 9.3. I don't yet have 9.3.1 installed. For some reason the phone won't install it.

    elzale,

Good for you. You're one of the 4 lucky ones. Vast majority are still experiencing problems.

Yepp, and I'm following the thread just to help.

I wonder if everyone has really tried the suggested fixes or if they just read that the fixes don't work for others and presume they won't work for them.

I was skeptical on resetting the network settings (totally skeptical) and it worked for me.

This guy tried my suggestion on LTE and it worked for him:

And again, I blame Apple for being silent...

Please forgive me if this thought has been previously expressed:

I have a new SE and also paired it over Bluetooth with a BMW (though UK). The resultant audio quality was deeply unimpressive. I checked my BMW phone software version and found it to be TN-002.033.002. I visited the BMW update page, inserted my chassis number and found a newer version: TN-002.034.070. The installation notes for this update mention better audio quality with Apple devices. I updated the car with this version and the audio quality is indeed now immeasurably improved.
