Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

Since you apparently believe that capital letters are more effective:

I BACKED UP MY DEFECTIVE SE BEFORE I RETURNED IT FOR A NEW 6S AND THEN RESTORED FROM MY SE BACKUP TO MY 6S, RUNNING IOS 9.3.1, AND THE BLUETOOTH ON THE 6S IS PERFECT.

Maybe you can try 72 point font next time and then you'll be right.

Thx mreg376. In addition, I'd add there still isn't any notification of update on my side (Hong Kong). Keeping lively discussion of this issue help push for solution faster I believe.

That kinda says it all.  I'm kinda thinking hardware issue.

That's because you don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about. Every single person who has tried the update, myself included, has posted it fixed the BT problem. Now I know why you won't try it for yourself.....you returned your SE. Just stop misleading people who still have them.

That's because "backups" don't contain the iOS bluetooth stacks.......you really don't have any idea what you are talking about.

Well, at least I understand the nature of Bluetooth profiles, where they are located, and why I know why you don't know what you are talking about. You obviously don't mind making a fool of yourself with your lack of even a basic understanding of the issues here, so carry on. Not too mention the fact that my SE, which had horrible BT clarity before I applied the update, is now crystal clear. So I got that going for me.....which is nice. As will the rest of the people who still have SEs soon. And we will all talk to each over said BT about you and your uninformed "faulty hardware" opinion.......and laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

20 people here have said that the beta doesn't help.  But they should all forget that, listen to YOU, and keep their SE's past the return period because YOU know that it's not a hardware issue.  Thank the lord they have you.

How true.  The problem is that "dcpmark" has proclaimed that the problem has been solved for everyone by the public beta, which is false, and he's taken to insulting anyone who points that out.

Its a bit hard to follow this discussion, do we have a statement from Apple that this is a software problem that is to be fixed at some point, or a hardware bug that cannot be solved at all?

Notice how I quoted your post. Please do the same to the "20 people" who said the beta did not improve BT clarity for them.

I am fully aware that one poster said the beta helped with some of his/her BT devices but not all. FYI: Every BT device will NEVER work properly with all other BT devices. This is the one of the many thIngs on this issue you don't seem to understand, but it still has nothing to do with hardware. It has to do with the fact that BT is a protocol, not a standard like wifi, and while the Bluetooth SIG claims backwards compatibility nothing in the protocol requires that to be true. Many BT 4.2 devices simply won't function as well as with a BT 1.0 or 2.0 device as they would with another BT 4.2 device. Not to mention that the maker of that crappy little BT 2.0 headset you are complaining doesn't work that new SE you bought might have put in a bad BT stack as well. So, to that end, I AGREE with you that if someone is at all worried that the BT in their SE will work in a particular application, they should either return it and repurchase after the update comes out in a few days, or they can download the public beta right now to see if it works for them. That worked for me, and it takes 20 min from start to finish. i know you returned your SE without trying it, but anyone who still has their SE right now can try it for themselves. Trying it right now will not prevent them from returning their SE if they are still within the period.

There is NO statement at all from Apple.  People here, as well as some media articles mentioning the same postings, have reported that they were told by Apple representatives that Apple is aware of the problem and their engineers are working on it.  A few have reported that the SE problem carries over when you restore a 6s with an SE backup with iOS 9.3.1.  Others have reported no problem at all with a 6s under any circumstances.  This is either an iOS problem or a hardware problem.  We'll know only when and if Apple, not any self-proclaimed "bluetooth expert" here, announces a solution.

P.S.  What is confusing is that our local self-proclaimed bluetooth expert has announced that the current public beta for iOS 9.3.2, which was released PRIOR to the SE bluetooth problem becoming known as a widespread issue, solves the problem and everyone should try the beta  before returning their SE.  Aside from the risks of running your phone on a beta release if you use your device for anything you would consider important, the vast majority of those who tried the beta have said that it does not solve the SE bluetooth audio problem.

I have this problem with my new iPhone SE, I am a truck driver and drive different trucks and I get distorted calls on all of them, the trucks are the same make and are all 2016 models. I also have distorted calls in my car, Pioneer Bluetooth hi-fi fitted and any other Bluetooth headset that I have. The calls seem to be better iPhone to iPhone and different distortion depending on the network the other party is on. I had iPhone 5s before and not a problem.

This seems to be a big fault with the iPhone SE and I think Apple should fix it quickly.

For new comers, there were a lot of replies here that got deleted because of the terms and condition for ios beta.

I can't say anything about it because it's violating the terms and conditions and will get deleted..

but all i can say is, keep your SE.
