Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

Yes, but in effect the SE was released with 0% BT audio compatibility.

Hyperbole at its finest. There have been plenty of posters, here and on the MR thread on the same issue, have reported that prior to any beta release the SE BT was clear as a bell on one or more of their BT devices. One poster reported that it worked on their 2015 Ford Focus with MySync 2, and I myself reported here that while it was horrible on my 2014 GMC Acadia Denali it worked perfectly on the 2016 Acadia I drove one day. Again, this is pre-beta release.

The SE uses BT 4.2, while is MUCH more likely to be conpatible with other BT 4.0-4.2 devices. The tech in cars can be YEARS old by the time it reaches the consumer, and many OEM infotainment systems are still rocking Bluetooth 2.0 and 3.0  because Bluetooth is supposed to be backwards compatible. This is pure lipservice by the Bluetooth SIG,  and no one can check every device with every other device. Unlike a standard like wifi, the Bluetooth protocol allows manufacturers to be incompatible with other manufacturers and still get licensed as a Bluetooth device.

I have exactly the same issue . incoming voice quality over bluetooth  is horrible the speaker cannot be understood. I have a iPhone 4 and a 4s which both work fine with my car's bluetooth (so the problem is not car related. The iPhone se however fails horribly. Changing volume levels does not improve the quality what so ever. Please fix this ASAP

    Oh you're being sarcastic?

Well the SE bluetooth problem is affecting plenty of 2016, 2015, 2014 model year cars.

    Hello,

I have the same problem with my iphone SE with a 2015 Audi A3. It's sometime acceptable but not perfect, and sometime it's so bad that it's impossible to understand the caller. I live in France.

It's the first time I buy an iphone and may be the last time if Apple don't solve the problem in the next days. I have 10 days left before returning the iphone SE.

Before I had several Android smartphones without any problem. I think this iphone SE was a good opportunity for Apple to get more custumers from Android, like me, we currently don't find equivalent (performance, small size, good battery, price) with an android smartphone. But with a such problem and absence of communication and commitment on a solution, Apple will lost their opportunity.

What can we do ? write a message like "don't buy this iphone se, it can not be used in your car !" in all internet forums as a protestation ?

A software is coming soon, likely within the next 10 days, but if it is not available within 9 days and it clears up your problem, you should definitely return it before the return period has expired.

We are having to exchange some of our employees' devices for the iPhone 6 due to this issue.  Can't have our customers unable to understand what our salespeople are saying while they are on the road.  We are advising our employees to skip this release of the SE if possible.

I am searching the inventory of Apple stores(T-Mobile stores as well) for SEs and it has been a week, since stores in 600+ miles radius received the stock.  Could it be that apple makes some changes to Bluetooth hardware and because of that there is a delay?
