Q: iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

I also have this issue with my 2014 Nissan Altima. My previous iPhone 5 and 5C was crystal clear. I also want to point out this is NOT just phone calls. It also has poor quality when using Siri. All of her responses to reading text, emails, telling the weather  or anything has poor quality. When not used in the car Siri is perfect. The only thing that seems to work correctly in the car over bluetooth is the playing of music and listening to podcasts.

I have also been having this problem since I bought my phone 3 weeks ago. I have a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe and when I'm on Bluetooth I come through clearly to the person that I'm speaking to, but I can't hear the other person at all. I also tried to use my phone in my husband's 2014 Infiniti QX60, and it warrants the same result.

As states earlier Bluetooth audio incoming is very poor in Mercedes 2014 amg- next to useless whereas, my 5S is perfect.

Whilst one can appreciate that full compatability  might be a problem first time round, what a PR disaster for  a new phone seemingly not to work with at least 95% of devices.

If the Beta does resolve the issue for ALL then why haven't apple issued it as a full update to save all the returns they will get with the new iphone that doesn't work properly. I sent mine back to the covent garden store the same day.

That's what is perplexing.  If the problem has been solved in the beta, which seems to be the case, why doesn't Apple make a simple announcement saying so, so that the vast majority (95+%) of users who don't even know what a beta is will hold onto their phones pending official release of the fix.  I'm sure many, many of these phones have been returned that would not have been returned if average customers had been assured BY APPLE that the problem was known and a fix had been found.  Doesn't make sense.

I’m frustrated with having to wait too and I think they should pay me to test their software so I’m reluctant to go for the beta version. That being said, I understand why the update needs to take time. Anytime you change something there is the potential of introducing new problems. When you are dealing with tens of thousands of devices that’s a significant risk. Let the beta testers take the risk.

Hi all. IOS 9.3.2 beta 4 has fixed the Bluetooth sound issue (connecting to VW Tiguan). I hope a non beta release wil come out soon.

I also have the same issue with skratchy sounds with my new iphone SE and my Altima 2009. I had no problems with my 5S. I think I'll be talking to my Verizon Store where I purchased the phone tomorrow. I've had a few other issues with this phone such as sounds not playing when I receive texts. They play on my other devices, just not my phone. Strange.

Same thing here. 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe bluetooth worked perfectly fine with my iPhone 5. With the SE, I can barely hear what the other person is saying to me. Called apple and they told me they have never heard of this issue before which is ridiculous bc this thread has been on here for almost a month. What is going on Apple.

Hi all, same for me on my iPhone SE 64 Go, on iOS 9.3.1. Crappy sound during phone calls in my Audi TT with Belkin CarAudio fitted on Concert 2 with Bose sound system.

Installed yesterday evening the 9.3.2 Beta 4, have had several phone calls going to work this morning using BT in the car, sound OK, as with my old 5S.

    Seems to be resolved.

Once the publicly released iOS update comes out, I am sure that it will resolve Bluetooth issue that we are/were having.
