Q: Can't receive emails over 2MB??

People have been getting this message when they try emailing me:

Technical details of permanent failure:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain mac.com by mx6.mail.icloud.com.

The error that the other server returned was:

552 5.2.3 Message exceeds local size limit.

BUT -  the emails they are trying to send are nowhere near 20MB - they have all been under 2MB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Binaryrockstar,

I understand you are not receiving emails to your iCloud email account, and the error messages indicate an issue with file size.   The first things that come to mind are to check with the ISP provider for both parties to see what the limits are,  and to check the amount of iCloud storage you have available.  I'll include some information about this, and other troubleshooting steps for iCloud email.

    iCloud storage upgrades and downgrades

    Get help using iCloud Mail

If you're attaching a large file

Message attachments can't exceed the maximum size allowed by your email service provider or the recipient's email service provider. The maximum size varies by service provider. Try using Mail Dropcompressing the file before sending it, or sending your message without the attachment.

If you can't receive mail in the Mail app on your Mac

Find the name of your iCloud account on the left side of the main Mail window. If your account name is dimmed and has a lightning-bolt symbol next to it, your account is offline. To take your account online, connect to the Internet, then choose Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online. If you still need help, use these steps:

    1. Choose Mail > Preferences.
    2. Click the Accounts tab.
    3. Select your iCloud account from the list of accounts.
    4. Click the Advanced tab and check your settings:

      • Port: 993
      •
      • Select Use SSL
      •
      • Authentication: Password or Apple Token

Use these steps if you need help sending or receiving email in the Mail app on your Mac. If you still need help, contact iCloud Support.

    Take care,
