Macbook pro won't read lightning HDMI adapter-El Cap

Absolut accurate. Let me be more specific. I have my iPad connected to my macbook pro and I'm using the duet app. I was planning on being able to use the adapter to show what's on the pad on the tv but...it does not read the adapter.

Thanks for the follow up and clarification on what you are trying to accomplish. It seems the Duet app allows the use of an iOS device as an extra display for your Mac and requires download of an application that will download the graphics driver that allows both devices to communicate. The following link from the Developer's site provides more information:

Duet works great, it's really cool no issues with it what so ever. It's the adapter. When I plug in the USB/ lightning no problems. Duet works fine, iTunes can see my iPad, I can import and do everything that they're designed to. When I use the adapter, the book does and sees nothing. Hence book pro doesn't read the adapter. Why?
