Q: What do I need to play AVI files in El Capitan

How do you have three versions of Flip4Mac?

Personally I'm a fan of VLC.

VLC for Mac OS X

Quicktime alone has never played .avi files. Flip4Mac, which used to be free allowed Quicktime to play .avi files.

VLC will play .avi files without Flip4Mac.

who "gave" you 2 versions of Flip4Mac and which versions? It is now a commercial app and needs a license to work. The current versions of Flip4Mac is 3.3.6.

I was just going by their website. I use VLC so it matters not to me. But as I said previously, FLIP4Mac is now a paid program and won't work without a license.
