What does the Apple Diagnostics test say...?

Apr 5, 2016 10:33 AM in response to den.thedby cordele,Definitely the fan. It sounds like it was breathing. Moving fast and slow every other minute.
Resetting the SMC didn't work, but I found a software SSD Fan Control that has seemed to do the trick.

Apr 5, 2016 10:49 AM in response to cordeleby rkaufmann87,You can be dead sure it is the fan, it could also be the fan controller. While using software may help it also may do further damage. Your best bet is to take the computer to an Apple Store or AASP, to have it professionally diagnosed and repaired. I know you are trying to save money, however when doing so sometimes we end up spending far more then if we did the job the right way in the first place.

Apr 5, 2016 10:54 AM in response to rkaufmann87by cordele,I don't disagree with you on that, that's why I came to this forum to see if anyone has suggestions. The Genius appointment in my area is like a week away and so I needed answers quicker.
I will try to find an authorized dealer or repairer.

Apr 5, 2016 11:01 AM in response to den.thedby cordele,It said there was an issue with the fan. The automated message stated ""iMac, C02LCF3EF8J2, Built-in fans not working as expected"
Then the Apple provided these automated articles:
- Mac notebooks: Operating temperatureThe bottom surface and some areas between the keyboard and LCD hinge of your Mac notebook can become warm after extended periods of use. This...
- Learn about the fans in your MacLearn more about the control system in your Mac that monitors internal temperatures and delivers airflow to critical components by adjusting fan...
- iMac: Fans run at full speed after computer turns onAfter plugging in your iMac and turning it on, the fans may be noisy and appear to run at full speed. In this event, shutting the iMac off and turning...
Keep in mind, all of this is happening via diagnostics, so the Apple system is giving me these things without human interaction.

Apr 5, 2016 11:20 AM in response to cordeleby den.thed,Doesn't look like that test officially knows if it is the fan or the fan control system. I'm with rkaufmann87, take it in and let the Apple Tech test it.
