Can't connect to App store on iOS 4.2.1

Hi guys!

I decided to take my good ol' iPhone 3G out of its obscurity to use it as a backup phone in case of any unfortunate situation, and couldn't connect to the App/iTunes store after multiple tries. I checked my wifi connectivity and it was working well on Safari. Does anyone here have a tip on how to solve it? Or has Apple really shut down its app store connectivity on the old iOS-es 😢

After seeing your post, I just booted up my 3G to test it and noticed the same thing. I thought it might have something to do with Date & Time settings. I noticed that even though "Set Automatically" was on, the phone thought that the current date was in September of last year. Since the App Store will not work if the Date & Time settings are inaccurate, and the phone can't seem to establish a connection to the server to get the right time, I'd say that is why you cannot get on the App Store (assuming you also see the time anomaly).

I have an iPod touch 2nd gen which also has iOS 4.2.1, and will test it on there tomorrow.

Hi SJF!

The app store fixed itself before I got to see your reply, haha. I believe I had set my date and time manually (since it wasn't working automatically like you said) when I had trouble connecting to the store, so I can't say for sure if that actually helped solve the problem.

Either way, thanks for your help! I'm getting a kick out of using the older versions of some apps now, feeling old 😝
