Q: iMessage - Sending messages to landlines from OS X

I'm seeking a solution to a common problem I experience using Messages (Version 9.1)  on OS X (10.13.11) - Selecting the correct phone number to send a message.

I have 3 phone numbers for my father, for example. One is a mobile phone (iPhone). The other 2 are land lines. When I select "Compose New Message" and type his name into the field, all 3 numbers come up, plus 2 different email addresses. I don't know which number is his mobile number. On my iPhone, it states which number is which when I perform the same task. I have this problem for multiple people and I can't simply memorize each person's mobile number.

How do other people handle this? Any suggestions.

Thanks!

    Hi,

My Own Contacts Card gives me an idea that might cross over.

My Own My Card lists my Land Line first and then my iPhone Number

My wife's is the other way round.

This is the order that appear in Messages after typing in the Name and then using it as a drop down.

Another easy (ish) way here in Great Britain is the fact that Mobile Numbers can be identified by the "Area" code they are given.

So dialling within Great Britain I would dial a 0 (Zero) first followed by the Area code and the number.

To get someone in London the Area Code would be 01 or 02 followed the number normally expressed in 9 more digits.

Someone in Southampton would 023 then 8x then the number such as shown for the Apple Store there

The Mobile Phone  (Cell Services) all tend to start 07 then three more digits followed by the number.

(basically towns that used to be 07something have had their area codes changes to accommodate this).

Generally speaking here there is no cross over between Land Line subcontractors and the Mobile Services.

I take it that it is not the same elsewhere ?
