Q: Can't uninstall Boot Camp - El Capitan/Windows 10

I have a 2015 MacbookPro running El Capitan with an 80GB Boot Camp (Windows 10) partition on a 1TB drive.

I want to delete Boot Camp and reclaim the space for OSX. All guidance that I can find says to do it via Boot Camp Assistant, but when I open it & hit "continue" I get the message...

The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Bot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.

...and I can't go any further.

Suggestions?

Cheers

You do not have any lost space. Can you post the output of

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

I am having the same problem. I have tried erasing the Bootcamp partition, then trying to remove, but the - button is always grayed out. I you want to see my results from Terminal just ask

    Thanks

If you erase the partition, it becomes Apple HFS, which Bootcamp cannot remove. You will need to use

    1. Backup OSX and all your files - Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .

    2. Boot into Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R) - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support .

    3. Click on Utilties -> Disk Utility and Erase your internal whole disk.

    4. Restore OSX and your files - Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .

This requires a separate external disk which can accommodate TM backup - Backup disks you can use with Time Machine - Apple Support .

Please see the steps for a TM Backup/erase/restore in the previous post. Same problem as Aiddog10 .
