bootcamp partition renamed untitled after booting in MacOS

Can anybody please help me ?

I had succesfully installed Windows 10 on my Macbook Pro and ran Windows already several weeks smoothly.

Unfortunately I did not make a backup of my windows files yet.

Today when I booted to El Capitan to connect my iPad to iTunes Windows gave me a message that it needed repair when I tried to reboot to the bootcamp Windows version.

It did not succeed in repairing and only gave my an advanced options menu.

I booted back into MacOS to find that the windows partition was renamed to 'Untitled' and that no files were visible in Finder.

I than ran Disk Utility and selected First Aid on this partition, I thought this was read only to check for disk errors.

Now when booting from Windows it says no operation system available and Disk Utility shows 496 GB empty space on this partition !

I hope not all my files are lost !!

What can I do to repair the bootcamp partition ? I tried to install setup bootcamp files on USB but cannot boot from USB (does not show the USB drive)

thank you !

No, I installed the W10 in january. I had different files on my desktop, different files in my document folder. And most importantly I had created all archive folders for my IMAP mails which I don't find anymore with this installation.

But when I look in the Windows.old dir there's no such files.

So I don't understand what is happening ?

Maybe I should just accept that I lost my emails, delete the windows partition and stick to OS X because it is unstable on this 2011 machine ? I got used to the Mac OS anyway....

Or do I have to try and issue the bootrec /buildBCD from command within windows and choose N en Y when he askes for the boot options ?

Do I have a chance of getting these emails back ?

thank you

1. Was Windows resized before or after the W7-to-W10 upgrade?

2. Were the Emails archived prior to the upgrade or after?

3. Using Testdisk showed this as the only viable header. Your 440+ GB was reduced to 185+ GB. There is a difference of about 250GB on your current disk.

4. Please do not modify/re-partition in any way, otherwise we will lose the window to recover data.

Hey Loner T,

I booted again from DVD to go into recovery mode and saw this screen:

User uploaded file

Use another operating system !

I get these two: windows 10 and windows 10 pro

User uploaded file

The windows version that works but is the old one I talked about is the Windows 10 Pro and when I start the Windows 10 version I get this screen:

User uploaded file

I did not run the bootrec yet since your last message, does this change things ?

thank you
