Before you attempt to upgrade, make sure your computer can handle the upgrade. What year is your MacBook Pro? In order to upgrade it has to be Mid/late 2007 or newer. If it is, make a complete backup of your system using either Time Machine or a program like CarbonCopyCloner. You can also make a partition on your hard drive and install El Capitan on it just to test drive the OS and see if you like it. If you don't, just delete the partition.

Other than that, and if your Mac is capable of installing it unless you install apps to clean, optimize, protect, flush, or otherwise "maintain" your Mac, you should have no problem.
