No sound for almost a year no matter what I do, sound disappeared after upgrade 7.3

I Have an Apple iPad 2 the sound disappeared after the upgrade 7.3. I have version 9.3. Now. I have tried everything to retrieve my sound , nothing works. No sound for at least a year expect for headphones. This is very upsetting considering the cost of the product and not being about to use it properly. I have done a restore, and everything else that I have read to do. I am housebound and really have no Apple Store close by to take it to, any suggestions? Thank you for anything that may help. !

Since no one here knows what you did or not did, the only thing I can do for you is take a stab at what the issue could be.

I am going for the obvious, first.

Older iPads have a tiny slider button along the bottom right when viewing the iPad in landscape mode with the Home Button to the left.

This tiny slider can be programmed, in Settings, General panel, and in the right hand colunm Use Side Switch, for screen rotation or sound mute.

Have you tried sliding this switch to see if it works for screen rotation or sound mute and if for screen rotation, have you changed the switch setting, in the Settings App, to mute, instead and tried using the switch, again?

Have tried to sound mute button in the iOS slide up control panel, tapping the mute button on/off?

Tried another hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

Thank you for your reply, yes I have tried all you have mentioned well as a restore through I Tunes after I saved everything to iCloud. My sound did come back on for a couple of minutes then no sound again. i might add that the sound was not very loud, but I could hear it. I can hear the sound very well with the apple ear phones. Thank you.

This worked for me:

Go to Settings and set side switch to 'Mute'.

Start Facebook app, find a video and start it.

Change the side switch, to the up position, leave it there.

Now exit Facebook.

Go back to settings and change the side switch mode to 'Lock Rotation'.

Now when you open Facebook and select a video, audio should play and the rotation lock will work as well.

Ifsound goes again... Repeat.

I'm going to guess that your problem lies in one of two possibilities.

One is, like MichelPM suggested, that your internal speaker is not working.

Second is that the the headphone jack is stuck to prevent the sound signal from being routed to the internal speaker. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have a technician examine your device. Or contact Apple Support.,

Things happen to computing devices.

They are not indestrutible.

Like any computing device, things can and do and go wrong with them.

The speaker or headphone jack issue is a hardware issue and it could just be coincidence that this happened at the time you updated the OS.

As one of other regulars have pointed out, Apple doesn't repair iPads.

More than likely, they will offer you a replacement for the stated $249.

It wil be cheaper for you just to purchase a wireless, Bluetooth speaker for your iPad.

If you are housebound, you can go to a online website, like Amazon.com, and purchase a Bluetooth speaker online and have it shipped to your location.

My recommendation for the speaker is that it is small where you can easily move it around with one hand, and it is rechargeable using your iPads charger block or by its own charger, so the speaker doesn't eat through regular batteries.

Most rechargeable speakers use a rechargable lithium/ion battery.

Try to look for a name brand for the speaker that you recognise.

Some of the cheaper rechargeable Bluetooth speakers use poor lithium/ion batteries.

Good Luck!

MIchelPM, thank you for your input, if I have to I will buy an external speaker, I was hoping I would not have to, as I had only had this IPad for about 18 months when this issue occurred. I see That this issue has been a big problem for quite a few people according to everything I have read. . I will let everyone know how it goes after I take it to a Apple Store. Thank you !
