Q: I am unable to update applications on iphone 6plus

I am unable to update applications on iphone 6plus. No matter how many times I try to update any app, the wheel comes up and will not start downloading. I was also not able to update iOS - received an error that the software check could not be done. I was finally able to update to 9.3.1, but only using itunes.

Tried updating apps again with 9.3.1, but the same problem persisted. Thus, I tried to do the update via itunes. itunes crashes when trying to retrieve my apps! I tired multiple times and on different networks, but it always crashes. I am unable to do app updates.

I have tried every suggestion except completely resetting the phone, which I hope is not necessary.

Are there any other suggestions as to what could be causing my problem?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.1, Same problem with 9.2

Make iTunes is up to date on your computer.

UPDATE: With much persistence, and many iTunes crashes, I was finally able to download apps to my computer and then update to my iPhone.

I am still unable to update apps on the iPhone directly. On device app store updates had been working flawlessly since this device was new last fall. Have not been able to pin down any reason why it would have stopped working. The iOS version has not made a difference. Any other ideas? I would much rather do the updates on the device rather than though iTunes. There are no known differences in other environmental factors. My phone has tons of available memory, network has not changed, ...

I don't know if this will help, but one simple thing to try is signing out of the App Store and then signing back in (perhaps after resetting the phone - hold down the home & sleep buttons until the Apple logo appears).  There should not be any loss of data, worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion, it was definitely worth a try - unfortunately, no effect.

Interestingly, a colleague mentioned this was happening to him and he said if you keep hitting update, like 30+ times it will eventually work... he was right, with enough patience it will suddenly "catch" and download... but not a very practical alternative. There must be a logical explanation for this odd behavior...
