Edit / split Mp3 files in parts

Hi,

My Russian teacher makes nice MP3 files to show the pronunciation of Russian.

To add that pronounced words to the Anki file I would like to split the MP3 file in small mp3 files each file containing one separate word.

Preferably the split performed automatically using the silence between the words.

The small mp3 files be patched in a csv file to be loaded into Anki.

GarageBand does not have a tool to automatically split an audio region at the silence between words and to export that segments as new audio files.

You can create a new audio file for each word by marking the word with the cycle region and the sharing the project to a folder on your disk. GarageBand will only export the part marked by the cycle region.

Audio Hijack can split audio files at the silence between parts, but I never tried to split between single words.

Audio Hijack a third party application. It is not free. But I am using it frequently. It lets you record audio that playing on your computer, for example streamed from a radio station in your web browser. GarageBand cannot capture the audio output from other applications.

The cycle region should also be available in your GarageBand version. My screenshot is from GarageBand 10. It is a great application, but so very different from the previous versions, that you may not like it at first. The look-and-feel is more like Logic Pro X, and it is less intuitive and simple than the older iLife versions of GarageBand.

In GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 it looks like this: The cycle region button is at the bottom of the application window, to the right of the LED display.
