Q: RAW Files on Aperture 3.5.1

Hi there, I'm new to the Forums.

I've recently switched back to shoot RAW on my Canon G7X camera and received the "Unsupported File Format" when I tried to open the files on Aperture 3.5.1.

It's happened before and I do not recall how to fix the issue.

Could you please help me? Thanks in advance.

The Canon G7X is not on the list of supported cameras for MacOS X 10.9.5:  See:   OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats - Apple Support

The RAW support for your Camera requires at least OS X 10.10 w/ iPhoto 9.6 or Aperture 3.6

See the requirements on this page:  Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.02

So you may want to upgrade to El Capitan and update Aperture to  version 3.6, while it is still possible to update by reinstalling from the AppStore.  The Time is running out to get this update after Apple stopped the development of Aperture.       Updating to Aperture 3.6 After the Release of Photos

    Thanks a lot.

I'll definitely update to El Capitan but not sure whether I'll be able to update Aperture to 3.6. Here in Argentina things work in a weird way, the App Store does not offer same options as it does in the US.

Will it work just by uggrading the OS?

    Thanks again!

If you just upgrade the OS your Camera will be supported in in the new Photos for Mac application.

You cannot update Aperture using the updates tab of the AppStore in any country any longer.  Test now, if you will be able to update Aperture before you upgrade the system.  Otherwise Aperture will not run any longer.

To test his, launch the AppStore, sign in with your AppleID, then open the fourth tab "Purchases".  DO you see Aperture there? If yes, you can update it after you upgrade to El Capitan by reinstalling Aperture from this tab:

If you are seeing Aperture there, it is associated with your AppleID.

After you upgrade to El Capitan, move Aperture 3.5.1 to the Trash (don't empty it), then restart the App Store. The "Open" button to the right of Aperture should change to "Install".  Click it. This should install the the current version, Aperture 3.6. Software update does not work for Aperture at all any longer.

But before you upgrade to EL Capitan make current a full Time Machine backup or a clone of your system, so can revert to your current state if need be.

Unfortunately, Aperture does not appear in the "Purchased" Tab. I did purchase it though. What do I do?

If iphoto does not show in your Purchases History, try to unhide it:

if your Aperture version is really Aperture 3.5.1, you can only have updated it using the App Store and it should be associated with your AppleID at the AppStore. Are you using the same AppleID as you used, when you updated Aperture?
