Apr 6, 2016 2:46 AM in response to lippipopby léonie,You can only import photos by connecting to USB, that are in the Camera Roll album of your iPhone. You cannot import photos that have been synced to the iPhone by iTune, and you cannot import photos that are not stored locally but in iCloud Photo Library. Are your photos in the Camera Roll, that you cannot see in Photos?
Then try to import to a folder on your Desktop and use the Image Capture application instead of Photos. it should show you all photos in the Camera Roll, even photos that already have been imported to Photos earlier.

Apr 6, 2016 3:04 AM in response to lippipopby AMG31,You should do an iTunes backup to ensure not loosing any of you photos. It will save all your datas on the phone except whats being synced online with iCloud. Then restore your backup on your new iPhone
About backups in iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
Remember to encrypt your backup so you wont loose any data (don't forget the password !!! )
Anyway, you can only import pictures taken with your iPhone. If your pictures are from an iPhoto / Photos library, you should be able to find it on you computer. If it's from an older computer, you can't import these photos to your new computer. You can't do this : Photo Library on mac ➝ iPhone ➝ Import synced photos on a new Mac
BUT : you can try iCloud and the Photo library.
iCloud: Use iCloud Photo Library on your iOS device
Enable iCloud photo library, sync, go on iCloud.com on Photos and check if everything is there. If it does, your photos are safe !!!

Apr 6, 2016 3:12 AM in response to AMG31by léonie,There is one problem with the iTunes backup, AMG31.
The iTunes backup or iCloud backup does only include the camera roll photos, and neither the photos that are in iCloud nor photos that have been synced to the iPhone.
Before we can proceed, we need to know for certain what kind of photos are on the iPhone.
- If they have been synced from iTunes, lollipop must on no account enable iCloud Photo Library, because that will erase the synced photos and they will be gone.
- If the Photos are in iCloud Photo Library, they can be downloaded from the webpage www.icloud.com using the Photos.app there.
- If they are in the camera roll, Image Capture should download them.

Apr 6, 2016 3:24 AM in response to léonieby lippipop,Thank you for your help.
I'll try and answer your questions.
The phone is connected via USB and the photos are in my camera roll. They haven't been imported before which is why I'd like to import them now.
My phone is always backed up to iTunes every time it is connected to the computer by the USB and then my computer is backed up to Time Machine every day or so (I don't use my Mac every day so it backs up whenever i do use it.)
When I do import photos from my phone to Photos (via USB) it used to delete them from my phone, it no longer does this (and hasn't done for months) so I have to then manually go through my phone and delete the ones I have managed to import.
I'd like to get the photos off this phone as when my new phone arrives, I'd like to set it up as a new phone entirely and start again really. I can then sync any apps and photos i'd like and get rid of stuff I don't want.

Apr 6, 2016 4:12 AM in response to lippipopby léonie,IF the photos are in the camera roll, you will be able to restore the from your iTunes backup, when get anew iPhone.
JUst st to be sure, you are seeing the photos in your camera roll album on the iPhone?
Photos does not delete photos from the iPhone after importing, if iCloud Photo Library is enabled. That is the only reason I know for the button "delete after import" being missing in the Import panel. please check, if you accidentally enabled iCloud Photo library in the Settings > iCloud > Photos settings. That would explain the missing photos in the import panel, and that the items cannot be deleted after importing.
