unsent message stuck in outbox of iPhone 6S plus

I tried emailing a recording from the Voice Memo app, and since it was a large file, I was given the option of using Mail Drop or to send it as an attachment. I selected Mail Drop and the email appeared in my email account Outbox but did not send. It is stuck in the Outbox, with the spinning wheel seemingly indicating that the email is being sent. But hours have passed. I cannot stop the process. I want to delete the message but the Edit button is greyed out (not active). How can I stop the spinning wheel, stop the send attempt, and delete the unsent message stuck in my Outbox?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.1

Try this : Airplane mode, restart the phone, then try to delete the mail from Outbox (or draft).

It happened to me and solved my issue.

tthx!! this solved my (recurring) problem with messages getting stuck in my iPhone 6s outbox.

Apple & the GeniusBar rep told me I had to delete my iCloud email account from my iPhone & then add it back, but that totally screwed up my mail in various ways. So when the same thing happened again, I really didn't want to use that solution!!

This solution actually solved the problem very quickly, and with no unintended consequences.

This did not work for me. But here's what I did:

I went into settings, mail, then into that mailbox that's having a problem, Then outgoing mail and turn the server off. I went back in to mail program and was able to edit and then delete that bad email.

Went back into settings and etc and turned the server back on for the outgoing mail. Tons of data used internationally, unfortunately.
