Quit Calendar, and go to System Preferences>Language & Region>Region:...and set/re-set your region.
If that is not helpful, I would also try Reindexing Spotlight.

Apr 6, 2016 1:23 PM in response to Ferd IIby Planmeister,Sir Ferd!! You, Sir, are a genius!! The first step did the job (re-setting Region). Thank you!
Now you have me curious about why "Spotlight" would need "Reindexing!!! But since Step 1 fixed my problem, I'll save the latter for another day.

Apr 7, 2016 10:10 AM in response to Ferd IIby Planmeister,If I can engage in a different topic: I have delayed (resisted) upgrading to Yosemite (now El Cap). I still can't get over the surprise of a past upgrade which left me without a working copy of MS Office AND Adobe Photoshop CS2. Something about Apple dropping Rosetta - which I had not been prepared for.
My question: It's time to bite the bullet, make the move (from OS X Mavericks [10.9.5]). Are there any similar loss-of-function surprises lurking in 10.11? I would at least like to know 'em, before they bite me.
I've been reading reviews, including recent ones of El Cap, but I'm never sure they are prepared to answer this question.
Thanks!

Post your question in the OS X El Capitan Forum.
It will get more attention and a far better answer than I can provide.
Before you post your question in that forum, RoaringApps is a good place to look for El Capitan application compatibility.
https://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/ contains some of the hardware considerations.
