Q: iPhone contacts do not backup on iCloud

All the contact details from my iPhone do not show up in iCloud.  I am afraid to activate new phone until i can see all contact details.

    Correct, contacts do not backup in iCloud, you would need to sync them to iCloud, or sync them to something else, like a supported program on the computer, or other cloud or email service. You need to physically make that selection to turn contacts on in iCloud. It is not automatic, and it is not part of the backup.
