Q: Manage Plug-Ins

I downloaded and tried a couple of third-party plug-ins which are written for Aperture (plus Photoshop, etc). They worked fine but do not actually do anything I am interested in. So I removed them from my iMac. Unfortunately they still show up in the Aperture>Photos>Edit with Plug-in command.

 

My Big Question: How can I remove their names/LINKs from the Plug-In command? I searched everywhere I could think of, but did not find the plug-ins names or "left overs" on my iMac. I even tried the Library>Application Support>Aperture folder. But it contains nothing referencing the plug-ins. Nor could I find any folder associated with the removed plug-ins in the Library>Application Support folder. Where can I find the problem? How can I remove/re-set the list presented when I click on the Aperture>Photos>Edit with Plug-in command within Aperture?

 

Note: I am running Aperture Version 3.6 on an iMac which runs OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.2

HOLD all help. After searching and searching I found the links to the plug-ins in ...Macintosh>library>Application Support>Aperture>Plug-ins (previously I was looking in a USER>library>Application Support>Aperture folder ). Now all is well.

    There are two Library > Application Support > Aperture folders, one in the system library and one in your user library in your Home folder. where did you look?

    1. Look in the "Library" folder at the top level of your system drive:    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
    2. And in the hidden  library folder in your Home folder:  ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/

     

    Your user library may still be hidden. To reveal the hidden User Library:

    • Bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock.
    • Select your user/home folder (with the house icon in the Finder sidebar)
    • With that Finder window as the front window, press the key combination ⌘J to bring up the View options.
    • In the View options panel enable ’Show Library Folder’. That will make your user library folder visible in your Home folder.
    • Now open Library > Application Support > Aperture and look for aliases to the installed plug-ins.

    Léonie,

    thanks for your response. Now I have something for you to think about:

    • when I went to HD/Users/NAME/Library/Application Support/Aperture by using the Finder>Go>Library>Application Support>Aperture route, there was no Plug-Ins sub-folder; but
    • when using the Finder>Go>Go to Folder command and entering /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/ as the search command, I got to an Aperture folder with a Plug-ins sub-folder containing all the plug-ins I was looking for. Pretty strange.

    One last note: I found this approach and the correct search criteria in a post from you back in Jun 5, 2013 2:08 PM. So either way, you were the one who solved my problem. A BIG Thank you for it.

    You're welcome. 

     

    it depends on the plug-ins where they are installed. If you purchased older plug-ins licenced to only one user, they might be installed in your User Library; I found the Maperture plug-in there.  Plug-ins installed for all users will be installed in the system wide library at the top level of your HD.
