Q: has anyone successfully printed a book made in aperture from a non-apple printing company

I am so upset apple will no longer print books from aperture. I have spent the past 4 days trying to find a reasonable solution to this mess. I  think photos is a HUGE step backwards and  and will not switch to it. I have just created a pdf and am thinking of ordering from presto. I really like the books I have been buying from apple and presto claims to come close. Notable difference being dust jacket and size. Before I order i am curious if anyone has found a better solution?

I've not seen any one post the results - PrestoPHoto has been advertising this for several years so I would think that they do ok - if you give them a try post back with your results

Ok, I am going to order a book from presto tomorrow. Ran out of time today. Here is my experience so far with presto: no phone support; they communicate through email and live chat support. they responded to my emails quickly and i spent 1 1/2 hours live chatting with them and they truly helped me upload the pdf, align text boxes, redo the cover and other things. Customer service very helpful. I have concerns regarding the book. There is no dust jacket which I would have liked. The text on the spine of the book cannot be centered ( as i would have preferred) but can be aligned to the top, bottom, or split. It looks like the pages will be cropped a bit and that is my real concern. i will report back once i receive the book, comparing the picture cropping in the pdf vs the actual book. fingers are crossed. the price seems much better than apple. In the past 3 weeks i have contacted a ton of printing companies and the tip i was given here about Presto by far seems like the best option so far.  Oh and they print their company name and logo on the back of the book. you can remove the logo for an additional $10.00 or you can buy a lifetime membership for 100.00 and if you choose that option you can remove their logo on all books for no additional fee.

I received my book from prestophoto today. I ordered the exact same book from apple via photos and from presto printing. There is NO doubt in my mind Prestophoto is the way to go. Photos was terrible. I spent SOOOOO much time making the book and I had to make some design sacrifices. The book arrived with no text on the spine. it was nothing but a huge waste of time and a disappointment. The book from prestophoto was half the price and almost identical to the ones i was making and buying prior to March 31st. Shipping took longer than i would have liked but i did opt for the cheap shipping. Moving forward i will use presto photo for all of my books
