Q: Reinstalling Lion Error

Dear all,

Basically I am trying to sell my Macbook Pro (Early 2011). I have ran into a few errors while I am reinstalling Lion to factory condition. I would be very grateful if someone can help me out!

1) First thing i did was erase the hard drive with the highest security option. This went fine.

2) Since then, I can not boot up normally. Every time I start the computer, it comes out with the prohibited sign. So, I started the computer in recovery mode.

3) In recovery mode, while I try to reinstall Lion, it ran nearly to the end but came out with the error "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." So, I followed instructions on internet correcting the time on Terminal. It came out with the error again.

4) I tried repairing the disk in disk utilities, it came out with the error "The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired."

I am stuck in this vicious cycle where I can't really do anything. Please help!

Restart your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should launch the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk (v10.xx) then click Restart.

Early 2011 MBPs came with Snow Leopard (installation disks). Are you certain Lion was the original OSX or you MBP may have been a late 2011 MBP.

I would try Internet recovery, boot OPTION + COMMAND + R. If successful, you should get this display:
This will connect you to the Apple servers and by following the directions, will install the original OSX (presumably Lion)

A solid Internet connection will be required.

Unfortunately, this didn't work. When I held down the option key, the only option to click was to select the Apple Base System. So, I clicked that and connected to a wifi network, the Apple logo appeared for a few seconds then the prohibited sign appeared again.

I did try internet recovery, when I tried to install the original OS X (Lion), it came up with "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again."

You can have an OSX installed at an Apple genius bar. I suggest you make an appointment and there will be no cost.
