Q: imac software update from 10.6.8 to os el capitan

I am trying to update my IMAc software from 10.6.8 to OS X El Capitan. According to the instructions my IMac is able to receive the update. I did it, but the downloading process was taking long and the progress bar was not at the bar. I try to stop it and start it again. Them now I have the icon X  downloading in my bar but in pause. Even shutting down, rebooting etc, I cannot take the pause off and not able to re-download from apple. Need a help, does anyone had the same problem, how to stop the process that is already in pause and turn it ON or just move it to trash..??

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

The download process may be taking long due to your internet download speed. El Capitan requires a high speed broadband connection

Call your ISP and see if they can offer you an upgrade.

Keep in mind, if you upgrade to El Capitan, if at some point you may need to reformat the drive or just reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery.

That also requires a broadband connection.

And check the requirements for El Capitan here >  Upgrade to OS X El Capitan

Don't worry about the pause and re download issue. If you can upgrade to a broadband connection then can click Resume to finish the download.

You can check your download speeds here > http://www.speedtest.net.   ONLY click where it says Begin Test. Do not click on any ads.

If it's less than 8mbps, you need to upgrade to broadband.
