Q: Facetime calling the wrong person

Dumb question / Problem:

When using facetime on either my phone or computer, I keep running into situations where it calls the wrong person! Not a completely random person, but I'll call my dad, and my mom will answer the call on her phone. Or I'll call my cousin, and his wife will answer on her own phone.

I know I've called the right person, because the correct name and contact icon is on the screen during the call.

It obviously has to do with the people being related, and probably having the same home phone number assigned to both contacts. Even though they have different cell phone numbers and are using different apple ID's for facetime on their devices.

So what gives? How can facetime not figure out who I really want to call? Is anyone else having this same problem?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

I would imagine that the problem lies with your family and how they have their devices setup. If they are sharing an Apple ID and depending on how their devices are set up, the calls can ring on multiple devices. They need to check their settings to see if this is what is happening. If so, they need to adjust their settings so only the one device receives the calls.

ChrisJ4203:  I would say you were right, except I already checked this and they are indeed using their own Apple ID's...

And did you check to see if Handoff was on, and if receiving calls on other devices was activated? When you check for the Apple ID, it is not the one used for iTunes & App stores, it is the iCloud ID. If there is any family sharing, that can also result in the behavior described. Their devices need to have the Send & Receive checked to ensure that only their individual phone number/ID is being used on each device. If you go into Settings>FaceTime and there are checkmarks by anything but their individual phone number, that could also explain the issue.
