How to put line above the footer box?

In Microsoft Word, this was very intuitive.

But for Page, even an engineer has a hard time figuring it out.... 😟

Anyone?

As an engineer, I expected you to be more explicit regarding the version of Pages, and OS X that you are presently running. 😉 Because not specifying these means that one must guess between multiple Pages applications and their behavior, I am going to offer a current solution for Pages v5.6.1.

It is possible to place a line above your document footer, but it is not automated.

  1. From the Pages View menu, select Show Layout. Now, you have a fixed footer visible.
  2. Click on the Shapes Toolbar item, and pick the ordinary line segment.
    1. It will drop into your document foreground selected. The right-hand Format panel will now show Style and Arrange tabs. Click the latter, and set Text Wrap to None.
    2. You can click on each end of the line segment and rotate it to 0°, or use the Rotate dial in the Arrange tab. You can also direct enter the 0° in the Angle box.
    3. Position above, and stretch your line segment to the width of your footer, and from the Style tab, set the line segment thickness and color to taste.
  3. With the line segment selected, visit the Arrange menu : Section Masters : Move Object to Section Master.

This line above your footer will now appear on every page of your current section. It is a background object, and is not editable, unless you select the Arrange menu : Section Masters : Make Master Objects Selectable.
