Q: My video streaming from Itunes library stutters on ATV 4

I have macbook pro with all my videos loaded in Itunes and a home sharing setup. Its been playing perfectly. A few days ago , my video streaming started stuttering badly - which I initially thought was just the file being corrupt but its with all my video files. Audio continues but video stutters. Not sure what to do.

I have tried streaming to my ipad however the shared library can be seen but wont load and times out. It loads perfectly on my iphone and steams with no issues  - I am even able to push the video feed to the ATV and it will play perfectly.  What may be causing this? How do i fix this?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

    Hello VuvuzelaCT,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you're experiencing some performance issues with Home Sharing on your network.  To get started I suggest that you follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below:

    Restart and update your router

    1. Turn off your router, then turn it back on. Check the router's manual for help.
    2. If you're using an AirPort or Time Capsule, check for firmware updates. If you're using a different router, contact the manufacturer for help.

While your router is off, you won't be able to use Internet services like Voice over IP (VoIP) for phone calls, and you might need to reset your other routers.

Check settings for ports and firewalls

    1. If you're using a Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy and select Firewall. If your firewall is blocking all incoming connections or allowing only essential services, click Firewall Options and edit your settings.
    2. If you're using a PC, or you have another firewall set up on your computer or router, make sure TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5342 aren't closed or blocked. Get help with third-party security software.
    3. Try to stream your shared iTunes content from a different computer, or to a different device.
    4. Try to connect your devices to a different home network.
    5. Contact your Internet service provider or router manufacturer for help.

Learn more about TCP and UDP ports.

    Get help with Home Sharing

    Take care.

Hi Alex - my firewall is off. Streaming is working fine to my other devices . Another bizarre issue is that if i play the video on my mac and send it to my atv - it plays perfectly, When I select the same video from the library in atv - it stutters.
