Apr 7, 2016 8:18 AM in response to Tbam81by Lanny,★HelpfulMacBooks, Early 2009, Mid 2009, and Late 2009 are all capable of running El Capitan.
Early & Mid 2009s can be upgraded to 6 Gigs of RAM and the Late 2009s can upgraded to 8 Gigs of RAM.
You should make a full backup to an external drive, before doing an upgrade, to prevent the loss of your data if there is a glitch, and because OS upgrades can't be literally uninstalled.
