Apple pencil has stopped working, getting message: " this cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this ipad." Pencil tip is on tight and pencil was charged overnight and it will not pair with iPad Pro. Running Version 9.3.1

Apple pencil has stopped working, getting message: " this cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this ipad." Pencil tip is on tight and pencil was charged overnight and it will not pair with iPad Pro. Running Version 9.3.1. What can be done to fix this issue?
