Can anyone help offloading footage from my VIXIA HV30 to Final Cut Express? Thanks for any help!

I have a VIXIA HV30, and cannot find a good way to offload video. I would like to import directly into Final Cut Express on my iMac Intel-based G5, but the program does not recognize the camera. I can offload into iMovie 9.0.4, but then I apparently have to render the video afterwards, which seems a bit "clunky", and not very intuitive.

Can anybody help? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
