Macbook 2007, new iPod, Snow Leopard; won't connect

Hello friends.

Am I basically screwed if I just got a new iPod Touch and I have a Macbook Pro form 2007 that still works JUST FINE and I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I can't install iTunes later than 11.4?

SEEMS like it could be really simple to just buy a product and have it work. Like you spend over $200 and you get it in the mail and you just plug it in and WOW a consumer product works properly on these magical and innovative machines.

Thanks.

iPod touch, Whatever is the newest new.

And is El Capistan a free download? It looks like it.

I'd rather do a fresh install than just an update. Not sure if it's worth the risk on my 2007 Macbook just to make my iPod Touch work. I do have 4 gigs of RAM but I don't even know if that would be enough. Probably doesn't even support Logic Studio 9 which is what I use for recording. I'm already using 10.6.8 which of course was abandoned years ago... so I guess it would be the same as running Mountain Lion.

Thanks.

If you have any PPC generation software that has been running under OSX 10.6 it will not be supported under any later system versions.
