Q: Drop down boxes do not open in Excel spreadsheet sent from a PC

I received an Excel spreadsheet from someone using a PC. When opened on my Mac OS El Capitan version 10.11.3, the appearance is different than the document that was sent to me and the drop-down boxes do not open. I am running Excel 2008 version 12.3.6.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)
